Foundations of the Faith (theology)

Course Description
Healthy ministry is built on healthy theology. This course introduces students to the foundational beliefs of the Christian faith and equips them with a biblical framework for understanding God, salvation, the Church, and the Christian life. Drawing from Wayne Grudem’s Christian Beliefs, students will explore twenty essential doctrines through Scripture, discussion, reflection, and practical ministry application. Rather than viewing theology as information alone, this course emphasizes how sound doctrine shapes discipleship, spiritual maturity, and everyday ministry. Students will be challenged to not only understand what Christians believe, but also why these truths matter and how they influence the way we live, lead, and serve.

This program is for:

• Individuals (17 and up, high school graduates)
• Those ready for formation within the local church
• Emerging leaders from Evolve and potentially outside churches
• Those with a clear ministry calling who are ready to step in.

Courses can be taken one at a time through Tuesday Grow Nights and weekend intensives, allowing students to pursue education without participating in the full Tuesday–Thursday program.

Non-accredited courses $50, accredited $400

Accreditation includes receiving mentoring. Each student would be responsible for finding their own mentor and would be paired with a vocational and an academic mentor through Evolve Church.

Evolve School of Ministry offers both non-accredited and accredited courses, allowing students to choose a pathway that fits their learning and vocational goals.

Non-accredited courses may be taken individually and do not require participation in a mentor network. These courses are designed for personal development, enrichment, or focused learning in a particular area of ministry.

Accredited courses involve a more comprehensive formation process. In addition to completing the academic requirements of each course, students participate in a three-part mentoring network consisting of:

• Faculty Mentor — provides academic guidance, evaluates learning, and helps the student develop the required competencies.
• Personal Mentor — provides relational and spiritual support, helping the student reflect on personal growth, character, and formation.
• Vocational Mentor — provides practical guidance within the student's ministry or vocational context and helps monitor the development and application of competencies in real-world settings.

Together, these mentors provide a holistic framework for assessing not only what a student knows but also how that learning shapes their character, ministry practice, and vocational effectiveness. Accredited students are therefore expected to demonstrate measurable growth in the competencies associated with their program through ongoing mentoring, reflection, practice, and assessment.

The Evolve School of Ministry is a program that runs from September until April. The program consists of weekly courses, mentoring, and hands-on ministry experience.

The Evolve School of Ministry is intentionally designed as a journey of formation rather than simply a collection of classes. Each course builds upon the previous one, creating a holistic foundation for life and ministry.

Foundations of the Faith establishes the theological framework by answering, What do we believe? Students develop biblical understanding and learn how truth shapes a Christian worldview.

Leadership Foundations expands this further by asking, How do we lead people well through developing character, communication, resilience, and leadership skills?

Personal and Spiritual Development addresses the deeper question, Who are we becoming? by focusing on spiritual formation, emotional health, and sustainable rhythms for life and ministry.

Ministry Practice then asks, How do we serve? and equips students with practical ministry skills such as pastoral care, discipleship, prayer ministry, and teaching.

Throughout both semesters, students are not only gaining knowledge and practical skills—they are being formed into people who can faithfully live, lead, and serve for the long term.

Schedule Commitment:

• 3 days per week (Tues-Wed-Thurs 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM)
• Sundays (serving within ministry placement)
• 2 evenings per week (including Grow Nights)

The total price of ESM will be $4900.00 + GST.

This will include the cost of books and a retreat or conference.
